Artist Elizabeth Beer's depiction of the corner of Third Street and Pennsylvania Avenue SE in 1967.
The Overbeck Project was given the original drawing of this charming scene after Michele Alexander inherited it from her father John Alexander, a Washington attorney. Michele searched online for an appropriate home for it and—to our delight—discovered us.
John lived at 217 Third Street SE from the early 1960s until about 1995. Michele says he absolutely loved his townhouse and the neighborhood. John purchased the drawing from Elizabeth Beer, staff artist for the Capitol Hill Spectator newspaper, after seeing it published in the paper's September 14, 1967, edition.
We are grateful to Michele for her donation and to Nancy Freeman for scanning and enhancing it.
