The Library is located at a prominent and symbolic location, in the 200 block of East Capitol Street, in the shadow of the United States Capitol, adjacent to the Library of Congress and close to the Supreme Court Building. In his lecture, Dr. Witmore, director of the Folger Library since 2011, explored how the Library came to this prominent location. He described the goals and efforts of its founders, Henry and Emily Folger, and the ways in which the landmark Folger Library Building by architect Paul Cret expresses the wonder of Shakespeare in stone, wood and aluminum.
